Mumbai: DB Marg police on Monday night arrested three persons for robbing a man of his valuables earlier this month. The complainant was on his way to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh when the accused trio beat him up and robbed him. According to police, the accused trio, identified as Avinash Ashok Khaire (28), Shahrukh Abdul Rafi Sheikh (22) and Sunny Ramdas Walmiki (19), were unemployed. They intercepted the victim near Patthe Bapurao Marg in the afternoon on January 16. They beat him up, snatched his mobile phone and cash and fled the spot.
Police said the three accused were history-sheeters and had cases of petty thefts and robbery registered against them at South Mumbai police stations. “The CCTV footage of the incident helped us identify the accused. A search was launched. On January 27, the trio had robbed a taxi driver in Tardeo using the same modus operandi. It came to light that they were the same accused. Accordingly, a trap was laid and they were arrested on Monday,” said a cop associated with the investigation. Khaire, Sheikh and Walmiki were booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) pertaining to robbery (section 392) and common intention (section 34). They were produced in a local court on Tuesday and were remanded in judicial custody.
