Mumbai: As part of the on-going crackdown on the use and sale of drugs in the suburban parts of the city, Khar police have arrested three men for possession of 1.526 kilograms of Mephedrone worth Rs 61.09 lakhs early on Thursday morning. The arrested trio was booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).
After cases of drug peddling had increased last year, the zonal police have been on a constant crackdown to put a stop on the sale and use of drugs in the western suburbs. On Wednesday evening, the Khar Police received an information of people coming to sell drugs near the National College Bus stop on the night intervening Wednesday and Thursday.
Accordingly, a police team led by inspector Daya Nayak had laid a trap near the National College to nab the accused. After hours of patient wait, they intercepted three men based on suspicion. Upon checking them, police found 1.526 kg of Mephedrone on them, which is also known as MD, worth Rs 61.09 lakh. The police immediately arrested them and booked then under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
The arrested trio, identified as Sanjay Pandey, Sachin Mudaliar and Roshankumar Pandey had come near National College with an intent to exchange drugs with their customers, said police. All the accused were booked under relevant section of the were produced in a Metropolitan Court on Thursday. They were remanded in police custody.
