Three corporators of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) were disqualified by the Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar following a Bombay High Court order. The Court had on April 2 disqualified the three corporators for failing to prove their caste before the Caste Scrutiny Committee (CSC).

Two of the corporators Murji Patel and his wife Kesarben Patel from Jogeshwari (West) belonged to BJP while the third one Rajpati Yadav from Kandivali (East) belonged to Congress. They were disqualified by mayor Mahadeshwar at a special general body meeting called on Wednesday. They have appealed to Supreme Court against the High Court order.

After their disqualification, their runners up will be given their position. Their disqualification is going to help Shiv Sena as the runner ups of two corporators are from Shiv Sena. A runner up of the third corporator belongs to Congress. At present, there are 93 corporators in the 227-member BMC belonging to Shiv Sena while 85 belong to the BJP.
