Mumbai: Stressed by her poor performance in the Class 10 preliminary exams, a 15-year-old girl hanged herself at her family’s Samata Nagar residence on Wednesday night. Samata Nagar Police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) in the matter and have sent her body to the civic-run Shatabdi Hospital for post-mortem. According to police, the teenager, who studied at the Samata Nagar Vidyalaya, was alone in the house when she took the extreme step.
The family had gone out to run errands while she remained home, preparing for her upcoming SSC board exams. When the family returned home at 8.30pm, they found her hanging from the ceiling fan. They brought her down and rushed her to the nearest hospital.
However, she was declared dead before admission and police were alerted about the incident. Police are questioning her peers. Senior Inspector Raju Kasbe, Samata Nagar police station, said, “The girl was depressed by her poor scores in the prelims. Her parents claimed she was academically weak and was struggling to concentrate on her studies.
While no suicide note was recovered from the spot, we are investigating the matter further.” In a similar incident, a 16-year-old boy had hanged himself to death at his residence in Chheda Nagar on Saturday night, leaving behind a suicide note. The teenager had blamed the strained relationship with his father and his inability to cope with the upcoming ICSE board exams as the reason for his action.
