Mumbai: An 18-year-old youth hanged himself to death at his Matunga residence on Tuesday due to depression. The deceased, a standard 12 student, left a suicide note addressing his mother, where he asked her to ‘take care’. The Shahu Nagar police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are investigating the case.

An 18-year-old college student, Bahot, a resident of Matunga Labour Camp, stayed with his mother after father’s recent demise. Bahot was a single child and was a bright student but was depressed and had distanced himself from friends after his father’s death.

On Tuesday evening, when Bahot was alone in the house, he hanged himself to death from a ceiling fan with a bedsheet, said police. When Bahot’s mother returned home from work, she found the door locked from the inside. After breaking the door open, she was shocked to see her son hanging from the ceiling fan.

Bahot’s mother immediately called out to neighbours for help and rushed him to the civic-run Sion Hospital, where he was declared dead before admission. A senior police officer from Shahu Nagar police station said Bahot’s cause of death was determined as asphyxiation and an Accidental Death Report (ADR) was registered in the matter.

A suicide note was recovered from his residence, where he said nobody was responsible for his death and he is taking this step due to depression. Bahot also apologised to his mother and asked her to take care of herself in his absence,” said a police officer requesting confidentiality.
