Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announced a mega Rs 40,000 crore investment plan for the railways in Mumbai during his recent visit to the city.
The rail minister said, that investment and subsequent development will be done in the next two years.
Suresh Prabhu had come to the city to on Saturday to flag off the Bandra – Gorakhpur Express – a much needed train for the north India travelers.
Apart from the flagging off the Bandra – Gorakhpur Express, Suresh Prabhu hailed the inauguration of the halt of the fast local train services at Diva station, the inauguration of the new platform number 7 at Dadar railway station and the commencement of Wifi at suburban stations – Borivali and Andheri.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said his ministry has chalked out a plan to invest Rs 40,000 crore in different projects in Mumbai, the work of these projects will begin from next year.
“We have fulfilled the long demand of the people by halting the fast local train services at Diva station. The railway is constantly working for providing better suburban local train services for the people. We are going to develop a new Kalyan Terminus which will facilitate to the demand of providing more long distance trains to the city. The Terminus will be made within the next five years. The work on the development of the Terminus and development of Thane station has already begun,” said Suresh Prabhu.
Speaking about the promotion of the Prime Minister’s vision of a cashless economy, Prabhu stated that they are in discussions with the railway vendors for providing a digital platform. “Even a non smart phone user will be able to use our digital service. We are working alongside the state government in order to develop a platform for the vendors.” The Union Railway Minister further stated that he will introduce the Humsafar train service from Mumbai including Tejas which will be operational on the Mumbai Goa route.
