Mumbai: Thousands of commuters suffered inconvenience during rush hour after local train services were disrupted on Western Railway (WR) due to signal failure reported at Goregaon railway station on Wednesday morning. According to railway officials, train services were affected for about 45 minutes and nearly 50 services were cancelled.
Earlier in the morning, WR tweeted, “Due to technical failure at Goregaon station, all local services are running 20-25 minutes late. Inconvenience caused to passengers is deeply regretted.” The tweet further said train services had been hit due to a signal problem between Goregaon and Jogeshwari.
Irate commuters slammed WR on its official Twitter handle. “Trains from Virar are packed and it is difficult to board from Bhayandar station. The 8.25 am Bhayandar-Churchgate local is delayed by almost an hour,” said regular commuter Suraj Pandey.
Later in the evening, WR tweeted, “Due to a technical glitch in the signalling system at Goregaon station at 7.05 am on May 22, train movement was affected on all suburban lines of WR. Movement of trains got normalised by 7.50 am and 50 services were cancelled and about 150 were delayed.” Commuters even requested that the railway administration take responsibility for making clear announce-ments at each and every railway station for the convenience of commuters.
“At a time when crowds are confused and sweating at Goregaon station due to train unavailability, the announcement should be clear and audible,” Ashish Shahi tweeted. Another regular commuter, Watana Khatana, tweeted, “Technical signal failure at Goregaon railway station. All trains running late. Massive crowds at Malad station. Inconvenience for all your voters.
