Mumbai: A prominent motivational speaker, life coach and author, Sidra Jafri, sustained over 90 percent burn injuries after a massive fire engulfed her apartment on the sixth floor of Sea Springs building at Bandra Bandstand on Thursday morning.
While Jafri (38) is said to be very critical, another woman -- a 20-year-old British national identified as Evana Morris -- was declared dead.According to preliminary information, the incident took place at around 7 am on Thursday on the fifth floor of the ground-plus-six storey building.
It is situated diagonally opposite Shah Rukh Khan’s bungalow Mannat.While the fire broke out at 7 am, the time of call to the fire brigade was 7.30 am.
The fire brigade reached the spot at 7.48 am, and at around 8 am, the fire fighters classified it as a level-I fire.
Four fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
According to Chief Fire officer of Mumbai Fire Brigade Prabhat Rahangdale, the blaze was confined to the electric wiring, curtains and dress of one of the victims. "Two women were removed from the apartment and rushed to the nearby Bhabha Hospital.
Of the two, a 20-year-old woman identified as Evana was declared ‘brought dead’ by doctors. Meanwhile, the other woman, identified as Sidra Jafri, has sustained over 90 percent burn injuries and is currently admitted in the ICU ward of Bhabha Hospital.
Her condition is very critical," Rahangdale said.The building was evacuated and fire brigade officials are surveying the flat to ascertain the cause of fire and extent of damage.
"We are investigating the cause of fire and the report on it can be expected in the next two-three days."Jafri, who is currently battling for her life, is known for her 12-year-long research on human behaviour across 25 countries and 4 continents.
As part of her research, she collated over 180,000 behavioural case studies of men and women from all walks of life overcoming both collective and personal challenges in areas relating to well-being, career development and relationships.
