Bhayandar: What are the chances of getting back a gold chain which has been lost in an unknown public place? Next to impossible is the probable answer. However, in a classic case of exemplary honesty, a 45-year-old woman identified as Purvavati Meshram, working as a contractual conservancy (safai) worker with the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), returned the gold chain she found while cleaning a pit, to its rightful owner.
A couple of days back, Rohit Dennis, a resident of Koliwada area in Bhayandar (east) had lost his gold chain worth more than Rs 60,000 and had no idea as to where he had misplaced it. Rohit hand his family members made a frantic bid to find the chain in the region, but failed. During her routine cleanliness work, Meshram found the gold chain weighing 20 grams.
Following confirmation about the genuineness of the yellow metal, Meshram informed office bearers of Shramjeevi Sanhatana about the discovery. After learning about Rohit’s lost property and subsequent verifications, Meshram returned the gold chain in the presence of her husband and colleagues. In recognition of her honesty, municipal commissioner Balaji Khatgaonkar and former legislator and Shramjeevi chief Vivek Pandit felicitated Meshram at the civic headquarters on Friday. “I did it for the blessings and the smiles,” said Purvavati Meshram. “We are really very proud to say that she is the member of our organisation,” said Pandit.
