Mumbai: Citizens across the state were upset to experience one hot day on Friday, after  the power utility companies did not warn them of power outage. Friday morning saw people across the state being delayed in their activities as they faced load shedding. In fact, only after the people took to venting their frustration on social media did the companies send out messages on Saturday.

Thane and Navi Mumbai face load shedding regularly and this time even central suburbs of Mulund and Bhandup went without electricity. A working woman and media person Mrinmayee Ranade expressed her grief while sympathising with the delivery and service people. “It must be difficult for milkmen, sweepers and newspaper delivery men to climb high floors in such warm weather.”

Most residents complained of the failure of utility companies to inform them of the sudden power outage. “On a day it was hot there was no power on Friday morning. Thane has power cuts on a regular basis. But the issue is we never know if it is a problem or load shedding,” said Freny Manecksha, a senior journalist living in Thane.

Thane residents along with Navi Mumbai said that earlier there was a fixed schedule however, after the load shedding stopped, most uninstalled the inverters. This has been the common peeve after the resident suffered. “Invertors have been disconnected because load shedding stopped. Just as people are getting ready to go to work, going about the daily chores when suddenly one is face with power cuts it inconveniences us,” said Ramya Sarma, a writer and editor. Residents in Vashi and Navi Mumbai were then informed by the power utility company on Saturday, cautioning of further power cuts due to shortage of coal.
