In a bizarre incident, a Railway guard in Harbour line had to let go train he was travelling on when he spotted a thief trying to decamp with his bag.
According to Mumbai Mirror, on Wednesday evening, when Chandrakant B, the on-duty guard on a CSMT-Vashi local leaned out of Chembur station to give the all-clear signal to the motorman, he saw a thief open the other door of his cabin and trying to flee with his bag. The guard got down from the train and ran after the thief. Seeing guard chasing the thief dropped the bag. But by, then the train had left the station.
Chandrakant also complained that there were was no security personnel around to him and nab the thief. The motorman only noticed that the guard was missing when the train reached Govandi station. According to Indian Railways rules, a passenger train cannot run without a guard. Due to this incident, the train was held up at Govandi station for 15 minutes. Sanjay Verma, the RPF in-charge at Mankhurd told the leading daily, “Investigations are on and we are analysing the CCTV footage.”
