Mumbai Police to watch out for pranksters on Holi

Mumbai: After the video by a YouTuber shot in 2016, highlighted few Holi pranks which has gone viral recently. It was brought to the notice of Mumbai Police by an activist.

Noting the possible occurrence of such pranks on women, Mumbai police has already instructed all police stations in the city to initiate strict action against youngsters who may attempt to breach peace. An Andheri-based social worker, Ramesh Solanki, had demanded strict action against a prankster, who tweeted about a few videos.

He had also tagged the Mumbai Police on their Twitter handle. Solanki said, these prank videos showed the videographer had played pranks on women and men, showing they were caught unawares as the Holi revellers poured coloured water on the subjects he spoke to.

In addition, the police will deploy extra security and heavy bandobast on the occasion of Holi on Thursday. In anticipation of any Holi prank, Mumbai Police spokesperson Manjunath Singe has asked police to book the accused immediately under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

“We have come across few videos shot previously, by a famous YouTuber and have informed all the police stations to take action immediately if any such incident is reported.” In the video uploaded by a YouTuber, Shuddh Desi, he used to pose with a mic and have direct interaction with women asking them what did felt about Holi.

On the other hand, the YouTuber’s accomplice would come with a bucket of water and empty it on the woman he was speaking to. Interestingly, there has been no complaint lodged till now, but the police are being extra cautious to avert any such incidents.

With the upcoming Holi festival, policemen will be deployed at various sensitive and notorious spots in the city and beaches, which are the usual trouble spots for Holi. Police will be vigilant and women’s security will be given priority. Patrolling will be increased along with nakabandis at various locations across the city from Wednesday evening and random checks of vehicles will be conducted for drink and driving incidents.

Police are taking precautionary measures to avoid any kind of incident that may lead to breach of public peace during Holi.
The Mumbai Traffic Police will be present at various checkpoints. A senior traffic official said arrangements have been made to identify motorists and bikers who flout rules during festivals.
