Mumbai: Hours after the Indian Air Force carried out strikes on terror camps in Pakistan by crossing the Line Of Control (LoC) early on Tuesday, Mumbai has been put on high alert. Mumbai Police have, accordingly deployed extra forces at critical junctions in the city and beefed up security as a precautionary measure.

The Western Naval Command, headquartered in Mumbai, is on high alert and fully prepared to tackle any incident, while the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) too will be deploying special forces.

Mumbai Police have deployed several police teams like the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), the Quick Response Team (QRT) and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), in case of emergency. Manjunath Singe, deputy commissioner of police (operations) said, “We are following the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) by deploying police personnel on critical junctions in the city, to ensure nothing goes wrong.”

The Western Naval Command (WNC) of the Indian Navy too has been on high alert and has beefed up security along the coast. Mehul Karnik, WNC spokesperson, said, no specific details of the upgraded security measures could be shared.

However, he said, “The WNC remains alert 24X7 and is fully prepared to deal with any untoward situation in the wake of the air strikes in Pakistan.”Reportedly, intelligence agencies have warned railway police to be alert for the next three months. Accordingly, safety measures have been stepped up at all railway stations.

A senior railway police official said, “We have not been issued any particular threat, but seeing the current situation, precautionary steps are being taken. Commuters are also asked to stay alert and not panic on hearing rumours.” The Western Railway has provided a toll-free number, 1512, which commuters may call, in emergencies.
