Mumbai: Borivali police have arrested a wanted accused on Monday evening for raping a bar dancer. The accused, Nizam Shaikh, was earlier accused of cheating several home buyers to the tune of Rs 3 crore. Shaikh has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC pertaining to rape.
According to police, Shaikh was earlier arrested for posing as a Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) official and duping many home buyers by showing them expensive flats at a cheaper rate and decamping with their money, amounting to over Rs 3 crore. Amid cheating several home investors, Shaikh befriended a bar dancer in September last year and got romantically involved with her.
A police officer said Shaikh had wooed the woman by spending huge amounts of money on her. He used the same ploy and promised to help her get an expensive flat at an economical rate. Using the same modus operandi, Shaikh took Rs 40 lakh from his her.
However, as months passed by and there were no signs of any apartment, the woman demanded Shaikh return her money. Shaikh got tensed and to silence her, he invited her to a hotel promising to repay her money. However, when she reached the hotel room, she was raped and threatened of dire consequences if she informed the police. The lady then approached Borivali police and lodged a complaint against Shaikh, following which he was arrested.
