Mumbai: With a month to go before the monsoon, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has declared that there would be no waterlogging at all its five metro sites. Currently, work is going on at the five metro corridors in the city from Dahisar east to D N Nagar at Andheri (Metro-2A), D N Nagar (Andheri) to Mankhurd (Metro 2B), Wadala–Thane–Kasarvadavli (Metro 4), Swami Samarth Nagar in Lokhandwala (Powai) –Vikroli (Metro-6) and Andheri east to Dahisar east (Metro 7). According to the MMRDA, they have taken care of monsoon-related issues and formed a team of 75 engineers having 150 labourers manpower along with high capacity 30 dewatering pumps that will be deployed on these metro sites.

Moreover, to prevent spillage of muck or debris generated during the drilling and pilling metro work on the roads, a utility vehicle having required machinery with labourers, will be stationed at all identified spots said the MMRDA official.  Besides this, the vehicle will be carrying cold mix to fill potholes and paver blocks wherever required, said R A Rajeev commissioner of MMRDA. He further added, “MMRDA will work in coordination with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to ensure Mumbaikars will not face any hindrance during monsoon. Also, the emergency disaster response team of all five metro lines have been asked to do a daily inspection and monitor the situation at all metro sites. Also wherever the drilling and pilling work has been completed the barricades will be removed before monsoon and proper illumination will be carried out.”

Apart from this, the MMRDA is also responsible to look after the Western Express Highway and Eastern Express Highway. The authority has come up with a monsoon preparation plan this time for these two city highways. A team of 10 engineers with 300 labourers will be responsible to do the nullah cleaning and potholes filling work only on these two highways. Also, 12 dewatering pumps at low-lying areas will be installed to avoid water logging complaints if any. Besides, the team also assured, that no manhole will be left uncovered, or the de-watering pumps will operate smoothly through out and ensure there is no shortage of fuel in the pumps, in case of heavy rainfall.  Since emergency disaster response team for all five metro corridors have been formed, the MMRDA also to set up a dedicated disaster control room by June first week.
