Mumbai: The BMC is expected to start the work on Coastal Road's Versova to Dahisar corridor post monsoon, and the government has asked BMC the acquire the land needed for the project from concerned authorities soon. One of the land parcel is a MHADA layout at Aram Nagar in Versova. However, the BMC and MHADA are yet to finalise the rehabilitation of the tenants.

"The land has eight authorised MHADA structures and around 30 encroachments. The MHADA structures are 1 storeyed and encroachments includes houses and shops. While acquisition of land for the Coastal Road project, the rehabilitation of the people on the land has to be considered first. BMC has asked MHADA to handover vacated structures. So that the work can be started soon," said a civic official.

However, senior officials from MHADA said that they will handover the land to BMC and the civic body as per it's policy will decide on rehabilitation.

Senior officials from BMC said that if BMC has to take responsibility to rehabilitate the tenants and clear the encroachments, it will be a high level policy decision.

However, officials involved in Coastal Road project assure that by the time all required clearance for the project are received, the decision on land acquisition and rehabilitation will be made.

Notably, the BMC will also acquired land land in Andheri where Central Institute of Fisheries Education is located and the large number of mangroves also have to be killed to facilitate the Versova to Bhayandar stretch of the Coastal Road project.
