The Maha Vikas Aghadi partners have lashed out at the Narendra Modi government on the completion of its seven-year rule. Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress, in separate statements, claimed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the centre has miserably failed in delivering its tall promises.
Shiv Sena Member of the Parliament (MP) Sanjay Raut claimed that the Narendra Modi government has nothing new to offer compared to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s rule. “The infrastructure developed in the Nehru period is still existing and thriving," he said. He admitted that there are no corruption charges against the central government. However, he noted, “The expectations of the people from the government are based on basic necessities like 'roti, kapda and makan'. No one wants to become Tata, Birla and Adani.” Raut added that the government should respond to the issues raised by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
On the other hand, state NCP chief and Maharashtra Minister of Water Resources Jayant Patil claimed that the PM strategically used social media to mobilise support in the last seven years. However, his government is presently engaged in tightening the noose around social media companies. “The central government has failed to handle the first and second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was exposed because of the lack of policies on vaccination as well as the procurement and supply of medicines and oxygen. On top of this, the government bypassed federalism and extended help to the BJP-ruled states,” he claimed.
Patil urged the people to expose the central government’s failures on all fronts and to voluntarily join the agitation to put a break on its arbitrary functioning. This is necessary, or else it will be difficult for the common man to survive ahead of the next general elections.
Congress also criticised the government for the rise in unemployment, sale of government undertakings and enactment of three anti-farmer laws and its failure in combating the pandemic. Congress staged an agitation across the state. Public Works Minister Ashok Chavan said it was seven years of disaster. “In the last seven years, the country has received hollow speeches and false promises,” he claimed.
