Mumbaikars brace yourself as 500 BEST buses to be on elections duty on Monday (April 29), as six Mumbai constituencies will go for polls.

According to Maharashtra Times, BEST has 3500 buses in total out of which 449 buses have been assigned for election commissions duty and 73 buses have assigned to Mumbai police’s duty. These 522 buses have been on poll duty since Saturday. As so many buses are on poll duty Mumbaikars have to suffer.

Earlier reports had surfaced saying that EC may hire taxi aggregators Ola and Uber for election duty on April 29. “So far they hired black-and-yellow cabs through unions a day before the polling day and used them to ferry the polling booth staff”, Hindustan Times quoted an RTO official as saying.”Goods vehicles such as trucks and tempos will be used for ferrying voting machines and other material, while buses will be used for police and other security agencies”, as per the report.

According to reports, the district administration had hired 5,000 vehicles including nearly 1,200 buses. On the other hand, more than 3,000 black and yellow taxis were employed for the civic elections that were conducted in February 2017.
