Mumbai: Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has set up a 24x7 control room for the monsoon, which will be monitored by MMRDA engineers and officials. The authority has also initiated toll free helpline numbers 26591241, 26594176, 8657402090 and 1800228801 during emergency. The control room will help people stranded at various project sites. Dilip Kawathkar, joint project director (Public Relations) said, the contractors have been asked to adhere strictly implement safety measures. "They have been instructed to barricade roads where the metro work is going on. They will also be responsible to fix potholes ridden road, clearing and disposal of the muck created due to the metro work," said Kawatkar.
The officer said, contractors will also maintain de-watering where there is no connectivity to storm water drains to avoid water logging. Moreover, the control room officials would also help people during unusual occurrences or emergencies. The control room will be working in coordination with the three railways, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, traffic police, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), fire brigade and other agencies.
