Mumbai: The Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) operating the Versova–Andheri-Ghatkopar metro line in a bid to provide quick and easy services to its commuters in past introduced different innovative ways.
On Monday, MMOPL introduced a twin purpose smart card (two-in-one), which can facilitate hassle-free commute and also enable hybrid banking services. For instance, a commuter can refill this new smart card by transferring money from his debit card or banking account and continue travelling in the metro.
Unlike earlier, a customer need not refill this smart card on metro station ticket counters anymore. Moreover, like a debit card, a customer can swipe this twin smart card for shopping too. The officials from MMOPL believe it will help commuters, especially in case of loss of a debit card. The officials believe metro commuters can access all banking services with the convenience of a prepaid wallet.
An MMOPL spokesperson said, “Metro one has always strived to support digital India initiative by encouraging cashless modes of payment, like the smart card products and mobile ticketing (Skiiip-Q). Now we are happy to present a multipurpose travel smart card in association with TMW (Formerly The Mobile Wallet Pvt. Ltd), to provide seamless travel experience and ease to its commuters.”
One can get this newly launched twin usage smart card at all customer care counters at any of the Metro One stations, with a one-time payment of Rs 50, of which Rs 30 will be credited to the customer’s account upon activation of the card. Metro One has a daily weekday ridership of around 4.5 lakh passengers.
