The entire stretch of the Mumbai Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to DN Nagar) and Line 7 (Dahisar East to Andheri East) will be open to the public in January 2022. According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) the two metro lines will be made operational in phase wise manner. As per the plan, Phase 1 between Dhanukarwadi (formerly known as Kamraj Nagar) and Aarey will begin in October this year and in Phase 2 the entire metro lines of 2A&7 will be operational.
Before starting the commercial operations as a statutory obligation the testing of the metro lines is necessary for safety reasons. Therefore from Monday in Presence of the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Other ministers along with MMRDA Commissioner RA Rajeev, the proposed Phase 1 trial run will begin which will continue for a few months. Similarly, once the civil and technical work of remaining Phase 2 stretch is completed the trial run on this part will also be initiated. The Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL), part of MMRDA will look after the operations and maintenance(O&M) of the newly built metro lines.
The MMRDA had already received the delivery of the first made in India metro rake, which is currently parked in Charkop Metro Depot. This rake will be used for the said trial run. Meanwhile, as per the agreement MMRDA will also receive other rakes from the manufacturer Bharat Earth Movers Ltd based in Bengaluru.
Reportedly, the MMRDA had given Rs 4,350 crore metro rake order to BEML which comprises 72 cars. These rake will run on Metro Lines 2A and 7 along with the extension lines 2B(DN Nagar to Mandale) and Metro-7A and Metro-9 (Andheri to Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and Dahisar to Mira Bhayander) once ready and operational.
