Mumbai Marathon 2019: Lack of glamour quotient

Mumbai: Tata Mumbai Marathon has not been able to lure A-listers but surely has been a magnet for politicians to drop by. While Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, flagged off the Dream Run category along with other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and executives, Indian Olympic boxer and ambassador of the marathon, Mary Kom and actor Kartik Aryan encouraged the marathoners.

Maharashtra, Governor, Vidyasagar Rao was also spotted at the flag off podium. Former actress Tina Ambani along with actor Gulshan Grover signalled the senior citizen marathoners to commence the race. Other office-bearers of the Maharashtra assembly who were present are Industries Minister, Subhash Desai; Education Minister, Vinod Tawde; and Tourism Minister, Jaykumar Rawal. Mumbai, BJP president, Ashish Shelar; BJP, corporator, Atul Shah; BJP, spokesperson, Shaina N C and others were also spotted at the marathon.

In celebs, actors Rahul Bose, Milind Soman and Tara Sharma participated in the marathon; and so did businessman Anil Ambani and Tata Sons, chairman, N Chandrasekaran. Priyanka Chopra’s mother, Madhu Chopra was also spotted in the podium.

Another change seen this year was increase in participation from corporates which were higher in number compared non-government organisations (NGOs). This year, 270 NGOs and 290 corporates participated, compared to last year were 262 NGOs and 169 corporates had enrolled.
