Mumbai Marathon 2019: Dream run for women’s dignity

Mumbai: For past six years, Amita Ashish Gupta has been participating in the Tata Mumbai Marathon. But this year, she decided to talk about the stigma a women can face even in a modern society. Describing about her costume, Gupta said, “I wanted to focus on women empowerment. I wanted to highlight the fact that women can and should do what they want. They should break the shackles and live the life she needs.

Gupta, who is presently a home-maker, added that in a modern society often home maker is looked down. “While I have not personal experienced it but I know many have.” This mother of a four-year-old hopes that people go beyond such discrimination and stop looking at women as a puppet. Gupta has taken a hiatus to take care of her daughter, but hopes to join the league of working women.

Gupta has taken home Rs 10,000 as she is the second runner up in the costume marathon category. She thanks her husband for this win. “My husband have been participating in the marathon since its inception in the dream run category. This encouraged me to participate,” she added.

She only participates in Tata Mumbai Marathon and hopes to continue participating in dream run. “My husband and I are closely associated with social causes and Mumbai Marathon has been an extension of our involved in social activity.
