Mumbai: Four days after a man slit his wife’s throat and had been on the run, police arrested him from Ghaziabad on Wednesday evening. The arrested accused, Faizal Qureshi (32), had several domestic disputes with his wife, Rita Jaiswar and her family, following which she had abandoned him.
However, when he met her to amicably settle the problems on Saturday, things took turn for the worse and Faizal slit her throat. He was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for murder.
According to the police, this was a second marriage for both Faizal and Rita, who were staying in a tin shack near Antop Hill for the last four years. The couple often fought over expenditures on liquor and food, due to which Rita began staying at her maternal home since mid-April.
He parents’ house is in the same neighbourhood. On Saturday, when Faizal had gone to Rita’s house to settle the matter, a heated argument broke out between the two and Faizal slit Rita’s throat with a kitchen knife. Before the locals could react, Faizal had fled the spot, said police. Rita’s parents were in the adjoining room and did not know of their daughter’s condition.
A case of murder was registered against Faizal and the police began tracking the location of his mobile to nab him. A detailed investigation revealed Faizal was moving towards Delhi and a team was sent immediately. Rajendra Sangle, senior inspector of Wadala TT police station, said, “Faizal had travelled to Delhi through Surat, Vadodara and Meerut. His movements were later tracked to Uttar Pradesh and pur team tailed him there.
Acting on a tip-off, Faizal was nabbed from Ghaziabad, where he was staying at his relative’s residence. On Thursday, he was brought to Mumbai and arrested for his wife’s murder.” Faizal was produced in a metropolitan court on Thursday and was remanded in police custody till April 30.
