On Sunday night, a 29-year-old man was arrested for bringing a three-foot sword to cut birthday cake at Bandra Bandstand. The Bandra Police arrested the man under the Arms Act.
According to the Hindustan Times, the man was identified as Imran Mohamad Ali Shaikh (29), who is a resident of Baiganwadi in Govandi. The incident took place on Sunday night when Shaikh and 10-12 others came to Bandra Bandstand to celebrate the birthday of one of his friends. They were on the sea-front promenade and had completed the cake-cutting when a detection team led by sub-inspector Bhimsen Gaikwad noticed the sword held by Shaikh.
Later, police inquired Shaikh if he had a licence to carry the weapon, but he told cops that he got the sword from his friend. Cops seized the sword and took the accused to Bandra police station where an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act, for possessing a weapon without a license. But, Shaikh was granted bail after he paid a Rs 10,000 bond to a magistrate court. The cops have seized the weapon and are currently checking if Shaikh has any criminal record.
