A law student of Mumbai University will be appearing for a re-examination, after an alleged goof-up in results gave her 0 marks in one of her papers. Kajal Patil, a law student from GJ Advani Law College gave her semester V exams. While she passed in all of other subjects, she obtained 0 marks in Public Interest Litigation (PIL) paper.

The results were declared on March 26. Shocked over her marks in the subject, she informed university about the same. Kajal knew it was impossible since she was sure to pass in PIL exam. University officials told her that her result showed reserved, so she should wait for them to clarify the issue and not apply for re-evaluation. But she did not receive any clarity and missed April 1 deadline to apply for re-evaluation.

“I passed all the other papers. It’s impossible to score 0 in PIL so I approached the varsity. The officials asked for a proof that I took the PIL exam. My question is why should I go through the hassle when I don’t know what exactly happened to my original paper. Have they lost it?” Kajal was quoted by Midday.

Kajal has now decided that she cannot take risk of not being able to attend the re-examination. She is going to appear for the re-exam but has also submitted her application to what happened to her paper. Responding over the matter, MU’s examination section PRO Vinod Malale to Mid-Day, “Sometimes students mistakenly enters wrong seat number on answer sheet. In such a case, marks cannot be attributed to the student. Something similar must have happened in her case too. We then tally the student’s signature with other answer sheets. The issue will be resolved soon.”
