Mumbai: Junior colleges have opened their libraries and study classrooms for students preparing for the board exams. Though the students are on holiday, the colleges have allowed students to use these facilities as the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) boards are scheduled to begin from February 1.
Preliminary examinations are over. At present, students are on study leave. But Junior colleges have allowed the students to walk-in anytime during the college hours and use the library and classrooms to study. Also, teachers are helping students with last minute queries and solving doubts of those coming to colleges. Authorities of colleges revealed they want to help students during the exams.
Laxmi Vyas, Principal of St John’s College, said, “Students can come and study anytime from January to February till the examinations are over. We have opened our libraries and study rooms so that the students can study comfortably. Also, they can seek help from teachers if they have any last-minute doubts.”
The students said some cannot study at home due to a lot of commotion and disturbance so they prefer going to the college library. One Tejashree Mane said, “There are always people at home. I cannot study as my house is small. I cannot stop the commotion at home so I prefer being on my own in the library.”
Dhaval Shah, another student said, “I live in a slum settlement. There is always a distraction from my friends or neighbours. I am planning to go to my college after every paper so that I can study and prepare well for my next examination in peace. Also, I can clarify any doubts from my teachers or friends who study in the college.”
As the exams will begin in a week, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has taken precautionary measures. A senior state board officer said, “We have made all arrangements to conduct an error-free exam just like last year. We have informed the supervisors and college principals to keep a check on all forms of cheating, copying and malpractices. We request all students to be honest and punctual.”
