Crimes like rape, molestation and harassment are on the rise in Mumbai. A journalist has now alleged that she was harassed by three drunk men at Borivli station’s platform no 1 on Thursday.
The scribe works in a leading daily, Mid-Day, and said that the incident took place in the evening when she alighted from the train at Borivli’s platform no 1. She saw three drunk men walking towards the station. “When one of them intentionally brushed against me and tried to harass me in complete public view, I shoved his hand aside and protected myself with the help of my handbag,” she said.
The journalist further alleged that one of the drunk men became violent after his companions fled the spot. Later, the crowd gathered for help, that is when she called Police control number, 100, and was told by them to call RPF’s helpline number, 182. The journalist called 182, but she alleges that she did not get any assistance on 182 as they asked her “to check for cops patrolling the platform.”
She further said that she called RPF’s helpline number, 182, three times but no help arrived. The crowd which had gathered caught hold of the drunk man but the accused managed to free himself and fled from the spot, but the police didn’t arrive.
When the journalist reached home, she tweeted her ordeal to Mumbai Police and tagged the Western Railway, but even after 24 hours, she hasn’t received any communication from the Mumbai Police or the Western Railway authorities. An RPF official told Mid-Day, “When a person calls 182 for help, the RPF does not have the facility to call the complainant back. A technical glitch must have caused Thursday’s issue.”
