On Maharashtra Day, the Jet Airways employees organised a peaceful protest and requested the government’s interference to save the airline. But the protest was not it. The All India Jet Airways Officers and Staff Association gave a written complaint to the Sahar Police station and sought an FIR against the airline management for not releasing their salaries.
According to Mid-Day, the staff union carried out a massive protest with more than 250 employees of Jet from the Sahar International Airport to the police station on the occasion of Maharashtra Day and highlighted the lack of support from the government over the issue. Chairman of the All India Jet Airways Officers and Staff Association, Kiran Pawaskar told the leading daily, “We have sought an FIR against the top management of the company and confiscation of the passports of the directors and senior management officials so that they cannot flee the country. I also met the commissioner of police in this regard. He has assured us of taking up the matter on priority.”
The association in its letter to Sahar police station said that a case of cheating, criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and other offences should be registered against the chairmen and CEO of the company, and the representatives of State Bank of India. In the meanwhile, an official from Sahar police told the leading daily that they have received a complaint from the association and are inquiring the matter.
Last week, a senior technician with Jet Airways allegedly committed suicide in Maharashtra. While the police say he had depression as he was suffering from cancer, the functionaries of Jet Airways Staff and Employees Association, claimed that Mr Singh was facing “financial constraints” as employees of the grounded airline have not got salaries for a long time. Jet Airways, on April 17, cancelled all flights, including its international flights temporarily, after failing to secure emergency funds from its lenders, according to a statement by the airlines.
