The Ghakopar police have busted an Irani gang for allegedly committing a series of offences including chain snatching and duping people posing as cops. The police suspect that the gang is wanted in around 100 such offences registered in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and elsewhere in the country. The gang members are history sheeters with 30-40 similar cases already registered against them.
According to the police the gang targets senior citizens and dupes them by posing as policemen and they are also experts in chain snatching. The gang was on the police radar after they allegedly committed several chain snatching and duped a couple of people by posing as policemen in Ghatkopar alone.
Last week police got its first break through when they nabbed Kasim Irani, 28, from Titwala, he then led the police to rest of the gang members identified as Majnum Irani, 43 alias Jaggu, Talib Irani, 55, Jafarali Irani, 38 and Sadikali Irani, 19 all resident of Ambivali in Kalyan.
Majnum is the mastermind of the gang with 31 cases registered against him while Kasim has 42 cases registered against him the others have also multiple cases registered against them. Majnum was previously booked under stringent Maharashtra Control of Organise Crime Act (MCOCA), said police.
"Prima facie we suspect that accused are wanted in around 100 cases registered in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai along with Hyderabad, Bangaluru, Kolkata, Bhopal and Delhi," said zonal Deputy commissioner of Police Prashant Kadam.
