The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced a yellow alert (moderate to heavy rainfall) for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar on Saturday. The monsoon is also expected to delay its retreat from Mumbai by at least a week. The earlier monsoon retreat date was October 8.
According to IMD official KS Hosalikar, Mumbai, its surrounding areas, and the Konkan region will receive moderate to heavy rainfall for the next two days. The additional forecast is of thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40kmph) at isolated places on Saturday.
On Friday, the city went under cloud cover and witnessed incessant rainfall from afternoon, with certain parts witnessing waterlogging.
The minimum temperature recorded on Friday in Santacruz was 26.1 degrees Celsius and the maximum was 30 degrees Celsius, with 87% relative humidity. Colaba experienced a minimum temperature of 24.8 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 29.4 degrees Celsius, with relative humidity of 95%.
