Mumbai: IAS Sonia Sethi gets additional charge of MMRDA Commissioner

1994 cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sonia Sethi who is one of the additional metropolitan commissioners in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has taken additional charge of MMRDA Commissioner on Tuesday.

The MMRDA on its official Twitter handle tweeted, "As per the Government Order dated 31/05/2021, Smt. Sonia Sethi (IAS), Additional Metropolitan Commissioner (1) has taken additional charge of the post of Metropolitan Commissioner, Mumbai Metropolitan Development Authority on31/05/2021 (AN)."


With this the the extension tenure given to R.A. Rajiv (Retired IAS) came to an end on Monday. Interestingly, the retired officer on his last day of service inaugurated the two flyovers named Rajnoli and Durgadi.

Besides, the trial run on the 20kms stretch of Metro Lines -2A and 7 was also started. In additional, the Airport terminals (T1&T2) decongestion project ground breaking ceremony was also performed on same day.
Since MMRDA is currently handling crucial infrastructure projects like 300kms long metro projects, Mumbai Trans Harbour Sealink (MTHL), Sewri Worli connector.

Besides it is also taking care of Mumbai Monorail. Therefore, according to the sources a dedicated officer for the Metropolitan Commissioner's post will soon be appointed considering big budget infrastructure projects many of which already have been started. Until then, Officer Sethi will lead the team.
