Mumbai: The long-suffering residents of Hindmata, Dadar (E) must endure yet another monsoon of waterlogging, as work on the installation of an additional stormwater drain pipeline is not likely to be completed till 2020. For that matter, neither will the work on expansion of two existing drain pipes be done before this monsoon. These are the pipes responsible for pumping water out of the area.
Every year, Hindmata is one of the worst-affected areas in Mumbai due to waterlogging. The two existent stormwater drain pipelines pump out the accumulated water from Hindmata to the sea through the Britannia pumping station. However, these pipelines are clearly not sufficient to do the job, as the water still gets accumulated. “We had decided to install an additional pipeline. The work started last year.
It is expected to be completed by 2020. The new drain pipe will be larger than the two existing ones and water will be pumped out of Britannia pumping station, which is 2.5 kms away,” said a civic official. “More than 50 per cent of the work of expansion for the old pipelines is complete. Once the project is complete, the waterlogging problem of Hindmata will hopefully be resolved,” said the civic official.
