Abdul Rashid Dawood Merchant, 53, whose acquittal was reversed last week by the Bombay High Court in the 1997 murder case of T-Series founder Gulshan Kumar, on Wednesday surrendered before the sessions court as per the HC’s order.

The HC had convicted him in a reversal of the decision of a sessions court which had acquitted him, while convicting his brother Abdul Rauf Merchant. Rauf's conviction was upheld by the HC.

In a plea through his advocate Ganesh Iyer, Merchant who remained present before the court on Wednesday, sought that he be taken into custody. The HC had held him guilty of the charges of murder, criminal conspiracy and common intention of the IPC and a provision of the Arms Act and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
