Mumbai: Aiming to reduce the stress on Tata Cancer Hospital at Parel, the state government has decided to speed up the process of setting up a sub-centre 000000of the hospital in Thane. The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has given its nod to allocate land for the hospital. Eknath Shinde, minister for public health, told the media on Thursday, “Plans are afoot to provide free-of-cost chemotherapy at the district level and facilities will be upgraded.
In order to further improve medical facilities for the rural populace, the government will soon make recruitment for about 10,000 vacant posts of doctors, nurses, para-medical staff and other category of health services.” Shinde said, considering the long waiting list for dialysis, CT scans and chemotherapy, the government will soon create independent machinery at the district level, whereby affordable health care facilities can be provided to the rural population. The TMC has installed 100 dialysis machines at the building it has constructed in Thane, he said.
He added that the medical services at rural public health centres and sub-centres will be upgraded and strengthened, thereby easing the pressure on district hospital. Commenting on the central government’s employment state insurance scheme (ESIS) hospitals in the state, he said, henceforth the chairmanship of the governing council will be held by the state chief secretary. Shinde added that the Rs 1,600 crore allocation from the centre would be used to upgrade facilities at the ESIS hospitals.
