Mumbai-Goa Highway to have 6 trauma care centres

Mumbai : Taking serious note of the rising accidents on highways, the State government has decided to start six trauma care centres on the Mumbai-Goa Highway. According to the master plan of the Health Department, announced by the State government, more than Rs 2,000 crore will be spent on development of healthcare facilities for the next five years.

The State currently has Centre government-sponsored trauma care centres at Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, New Mumbai, Dahanu (dist. Thane) and Hinganghat (dist Wardha). The trauma care centres are helpful in providing immediate medical relief to the victims of road accidents.

The State has focussed on having such centres in every 100 km stretch on national and state highways. It has decided to open total 42 such centers in the State. The Mumbai-Goa Highway will have such three centres at Panvel, Vadkhal Phata (junction) in Raigad district and Rajapur in Ratnagiri district and Tarala, Kanakavli and Sawantwadi. In recent years, number of accidents has risen on these highways.

Thane district will have two such centres at Manor (tehsil-Palghar) and Murbad. In Pune, Saswad, Yevat and Bhigwan and in Nashik, Igatpuri and Sinnar will have such centres.
