In a bizarre incident, four people were arrested by the cyber unit of Mumbai crime branch for stealing Rs 2,35,027 from debit and credit cards of several customers of a foreign bank in the city to buy Indian Premier League (IPL) tickets.

According to Mid-Day, the accused were identified as Akash Gosalia, Keval Gosalia, Manish Monani, and Vijay Rajput. The cops have said that the accused booked tickets through an entertainment ticketing platform between March 24 and April 14 and then sold it in black. The website reported the incident to police after the foreign bank received complaints from its customers that their money was suspiciously deducted from their debit and credit cards.

A police officer told the leading daily, “The website found that 68 tickets were booked for Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore match on April 15. It was able to identify the tickets from the details of the credit and debit cards that the accused had used.” The website also informed Wankhede Stadium officials about the fraud, but the accused had already collected the tickets. The website then cancelled all 68 tickets and informed the police.

The police then deployed officials at the entry point of Wankhede Stadium, and collected tickets and information about the four men who sold those tickets. Later, after getting the information about those four men, the cops arrested the accused and are now interrogating them.
