Mumbai: Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Friday encouraged young students to follow their dreams and passion irrespective of their diverse culture. He was delivering a lecture at the Techfest of the Institute of Indian Technology- Bombay (IIT-B). Over 3,000 students attended the lecture.

Delivering a lecture on ‘Relevance of ancient Indian education system in the modern world’, Dalai Lama explained various metaphors and examples of daily life connected to the topic. He said, “Students have a young mind which is open to new ideas. And India has a rich culture deeply rooted in the ancient tradition and history. Youngsters can use this rich culture and blend their new ideas to bring about change in the world.”

Students interested in science and technology were thrilled by the lecture as Dalai Lama focussed on the progressive modern world. He added, “The modern world has great technology but the ancient culture and education system have deep importance even today. Progressive world has new technology which has been developed over time due to cultural existence.”

Students from different universities and institutes of India expressed their interests and enthusiasm on meeting the 14th Lama. Ranjan Desai, a student said, “I feel lucky to have met a leader who focusses on young minds and at the same time has an intense connection with the ancient culture. It is a rare combination and as students we look up to such leaders.”

Students are exhibiting various projects, models and creations based on quantum physics, aeronautics, artificial intelligence (AI), biometrics and robotics during the fest. The Techfest will continue till December 16. Also students are conducting and participating in various competitions and challenge contests.

Over 80 teams from all over the world are competing at the Open Air Theatre for robotics competition. This year seven teams from Iran comprising of more than 20 students have been funded by the Iranian government to attend the Techfest.
