Mumbai: Yet again, BYL Nair Hospital is embroiled in a controversy. Only this time, a 5-day-old baby boy was stolen from the hospital’s paediatric ward.
A Close Circuit Television Camera (CCTV) grab shows a woman sneaking out of the hospital premises with the baby. The Agripada police station have registered a kidnapping case and are hunting for the suspect. The Crime Branch has also started its parallel investigation.
According to the Agripada police, the incident took place at around 5.30 pm on Thursday afternoon when the baby's mother, Sheetal Salvi, 34, was asleep. The baby boy was sleeping by her side in paediatric ward no 7 on the seventh floor of the hospital.
It all happened in a jiffy with an unidentifiable woman wearing a light blue kurta and a black salwar sneaking into the paediatric ward; in no time, she had whisked away with the baby.
When Sheetal woke, she was shocked to see the baby missing and alerted the ward boys; but when the latter cross-checked, they could not locate the baby and informed the security.
Eyewitnesses later said they had spotted the woman suspect lingering outside the ward; the movement was captured on CCTV as well. Later, after a grab of the footage had been examined at various angles, it was confirmed that the woman in her 40s had fled with the baby. Sheetal is a resident of Dahisar (E) and was admitted at Nair Hospital around a week ago.
On the complaint of the baby’s mother, the Agripada police have registered a case under Indian Penal Code Section 363 (kidnapping) against an unidentified woman. According to the police, the suspect is in her late 40s and has a stout structure. The police have constituted a search team.
