Mumbai: Fire breaks out at Bhiwandi godown, no casualties reported

Bhiwandi: A majorfire broke out at one of the wastage paper godowns which resulted in the firespreading rapidly in and around the adjacent other 17 wastage paper godowns atKalwar village, Bhiwandi. No casualties were reported in the incident, said thefire officials. The fire took place at Ganraj compound on Friday evening.

The godowns are situated at the ground floor which weregutted in the fire. Bhiwandi fire officials said they recieved a call at around5 pm on Friday from locals informing them about the blaze. Two fire tenderswere rushed to the spot who later called on two more fire tenders from Thaneand Kalyan fire stations. D N Salvi, fire officer said, “The cause of fire isyet to be ascertained. The ablaze was too huge and it took hours to douse itdue to lack of water.” Reportedly, at around hundreds of workers wereengaged in the godown work when suddenly the fire gutted in the paper unit.They immediately, alerted every one who escaped unhurt.
