Mumbai: Santacruz Police arrested a fifth cricket bookie on Wednesday, in connection with the crackdown on bookie syndicates in the city. Ketan Tanna alias Raja, a notorious bookie was apprehended after his name cropped in the investigation of four cricket bookies arrested for placing bets on the ongoing Australian T20 cricket matches. According to police sources, Tanna’s role in the crime was that of a ‘middle-level fish’ in the bookie circles.

The data procured from the laptop seized showed his name. His name had appeared in the Call Data Records (CDR) of the four arrested accused. Based on the information procured from the technical evidence, police arrested Tanna from his residence in Andheri on Wednesday evening and he was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

He was produced in a local court on Thursday and remanded in police custody till Monday, said Paramjit Singh Dahiya, deputy commissioner of police (Zone 9). On Monday, Santacruz Police had busted a cricket betting syndicate and arrested four persons. Acting on the tip-off, a team raided an apartment at Linking Road in Santacruz (W) and caught four bookies in the act of placing bets on ongoing T-20 tourney in Australia.
