Mumbai: “We want to study Post-Graduation (PG) so that it helps us in our career to get a better job,” claim female students of Mumbai University (MU). Students claim PG helps them to get a better job especially in the media, management, communication and creative industry. This year, the number of female students who completed PG in various courses is more than the number of male students.

Around 21,185 female students completed PG as compared to 12,186 male students. This means the percentage of girls who studied PG is twice than the number of boys. Students claimed PG or diploma helps them to get a high paid job. Vanita Aacharya, a student said, “PG adds to our degree and also learning experience. When we go for interviews we can demand a higher salary since we have a master’s degree.

Work experience and internships matter but an additional degree helps too.” Internships and work experience help to get a better job according to students. Simran Elchety, a student said, “I completed two internships while I was studying my graduation course. And now I am pursuing my PG along with a freelancing job. The more experience we have in terms of work helps to understand the industry better and work in an efficient way.

Teachers revealed students should try studying more and also try their hands at internships. Dhiraj Kumar, a teacher said, “Students should try and learn as much as possible before they actually start working. The more the experience students gain the better it is for them when they apply for jobs.”
