Mumbai: False claims for product’s promotion by big brand products selling companies will evoke an action from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Maharashtra. On Wednesday, FDA took action against a top toothpaste manufacturer for misleading people through advertisements.
They have also seized goods worth Rs 4.69 crore in its raid and will take action under Drugs and Cosmetic Act, 1940. Senior FDA official said, people must have watched this advertisement many times on television. In its advertisement, it says, “This toothpaste is clinically tested. This toothpaste is highly recommended by the doctors”.
Dr Pallavi Darade, Commissioner, Maharashtra FDA, said, companies who are making false claims through advertisements are on the radar of the FDA. They had received many complaints about misleading advertisement due to which they initiated action against the big toothpaste brands such as Colgate and Sensodyne.
“The license for selling toothpaste is given under the Drugs and Cosmetic Act, 1940. For boosting their product some of the companies uses the phrases such as, ‘clinically tested and proven, highly recommended by the doctors’, which are misleading the consumer and causing health problems,” said Dr Darade.
