MUMBAI: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has finally managed to convince the farmers of Mongur in Thane for the construction of Wadala-Thane-Kasarvadavli Metro 4 depot.
The land is currently being used for farming activity and therefore the farmers were worried about their livelihood,as a result the farmers were against the metro carshed initially.
However, after convincing them about the compensation policy many have agreed to cooperate, said an MMRDA official. A meeting was held recently with the farmers for the same.
As per our sources, the project affected people are likely to get five times the market value for their land, much like those who gave up land for the Samruddhi expressway.
The official informed on July 2 that the land will be measured to find out the details about the actual owners and encroachers. "Many have to prove their ownership as the land is on their grand parent's name. In fact, only after making the change in land title, the claimants can get the compensation." informed the official.
According to MMRDA, the land is owned by the government, and some land was leased out for farming long back. Presently, the entire land has been encroached by them for farming. The authority requires 23 acres of land for the construction of the depot.
