Mumbai: Fans bid adieu to MUTP buses set to be scrapped

Passengers and fans of the BrihanMumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking bid farewell to a retired Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) bus on Saturday that is set to be scrapped.

The MUTP buses are set to retire from the BEST fleet, as they have completed 15 years on road. These buses were introduced back in 2005-06. Since then, they have garnered immense popularity amongst the passengers and BEST workers. After the announcement of scrapping the bus was made, a group of bus enthusiasts wrote to the BEST administration and expressed the desire to hire the bus for a private ride in order to commemorate the vehicle.

The administration allotted Bus Number MH 01 LA 5863 from Shivaji Nagar depot for this ride and the route of the final joy ride was from Sion Circle to Mulund Check Naka bus station. Fans decorated the bus and felicitated the drivers and staff.

The bus ride was taken by eight bus fans - Harshad Joshi, Sumedh Tambe, Yash Mhadgut, Avadhoot Mancherkar, Niraj Waghmale, Himanshu Mukherjee, Harsh Dedhia and Siddhartha Fondekar.
