An offence has been registered against a former Shiv Sena corporator and six others, for abducting and assaulting a 22-year-old Borivali resident on Friday. The matter started with a minor spat between the corporator’s driver and the victim that later escalated into verbal abuse, abduction, and brutal assault.

As per the police officials at MHB police station, it started with a small argument between both the accused, Sheetal Mhatre’s driver, and the victim, identified as Rahul Dhanuka, over one’s car dashing the other on Saibaba Nagar road on Friday.

“They had an argument over SUV dashing his car on the road after which the victim stated that people from the vehicle (except Mhatre) abducted and attacked him brutally,” an official said.

Post this incident when Dhanuka, when tried to step out of his house to pick up his mother, another SUV was waiting for him outside his residence.

CCTV footage of this entire scenario went viral across social media platforms where an SUV, a group of five to six men, was captured attacking Dhanuka, who was on his two-wheeler. The footage clearly shows the boy was manhandled and beaten up by those men.

It is known by the police that the corporator and the group of men misjudged the victim’s intention of going out. “They thought he was going to the police station but in reality, he was stepping out to pick up his mother,” the official added.

A case has been registered under everyone’s name including Mhatre under sections 363, 341, 352, 142, and 145 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). No arrests have been made while investigations are still going on, stated the police. Meanwhile, Mhatre also has lodged a complaint against Dhanuka, which is also being investigated by the police.

The Free Press Journal tried contacting Mhatre to know her side of the story, but she did not respond to our call request or text messages.
