Mumbai: After an intense promotion by PM Narendra Modi of ‘digital India’ movement, every department in the state and the nation were asked to go digital. Technological advancement was the new mantra right from our district level to Mantralaya.

However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) does not seem ready to get into digital frame of mind. Sticking to the traditional means of making press cards for the media, ECI has asked all representatives of the media to submit hard copies of their photographs for the media passes to cover voting and counting days.

ECI has specific instructions on the forms to paste photograph of the representatives of news organisations and have also stated ‘digital photo will not be accepted’. With voter’s identity cards being accepted online, may be it is time for ECI to also go digital. –
