Mumbai: Drug lord Vicky Goswami deported to US

Mumbai: Vicky Goswami was arrested from Kenya by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration on Sunday in the 2000 crore ephedrine drug case.

Goswami, who runs the drug cartel was arrested while he was playing golf at a club at Mombasa in Kenya. He was arrested along with his accomplices Ibrahim Akasha and Bakhtash Akasha who aided him in the smuggling of ephedrine. Both the brothers are drug lords who are based in Kenya and were wanted by the local police in Kenya and the US Drug Enforcement agency.

According to Parag Manere, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Thane (crime), “Goswami was arrested on Sunday by the US Drug Enforcement Agency along with the help of the local police in Kenya. All the three persons were arrested after a raid by the US agency at the golf club at Mombasa in Kenya for smuggling of ephedrine drugs. Goswami was flown to the USA for further interrogation.”

“We are in touch with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration. We are trying to seek Goswami’s custody which will help us to investigate further. Meanwhile, we are also interrogating Kishore Singh Rathod who was arrested by the Gujarat police on January 9, “said a police officer.

In April 2016, the Thane police had apprehended a Nigerian national which was manufactured by Avon Pharma Lifesciences at Solapur. The 19,000 kilograms of ephedrine worth Rs. 2,000 crore was seized by the police.
