Mumbai: Drowning claims two lives in city

There were two incidents of drowning in Mumbai on Sunday. An 11-year-old boy lost his life while swimming near Marine Drive while a man was drowned at Juhu Chowpatty.

Mumbai: There were two incidents of drowning in Mumbai on Sunday. An 11-year-old boy lost his life while swimming near Marine Drive while a man was drowned at Juhu Chowpatty.

Bhairav Ramesh Bariya, 11, a resident of Panch Rasta, Dhobi Ghat, had gone to Marine Drive along with his brother. He went for a swim near Sundar Mahal Junction, Marine Drive, and was pulled in by the waves. The Fire Brigade, which started the search around 3:15 pm, found him around 4:55 pm. He was taken to GT Hospital where he was declared dead.

40-year-old Mahesh Maruti Shinde had come to Juhu Chowpatty along with his family. He waded into the sea near Juhu Silver Beach (Godrej Chowpatty), near Iscon Temple.

A while later, after a family member realised that Mahesh could not be seen, the Fire Brigade was called in for the rescue at 2:30 pm. His body was found around 5:30 pm and taken to the Cooper Hospital where he was declared dead.
