An investigation into an anonymous letter resulted into police booking parents and a doctor from Shivaji Nagar on the charges of cheating and forgery.
The trio were booked for allegedly forging documents in order to show a child to be theirs, said police.
In 2019 an anonymous letter was sent to the city police commissioner office stating the child in the possession of one Rajesh Jangam and his wife Sarika actually doesn't belong to them. The letter was forwarded to crime branch unit seven which initiated an enquiry into the allegations.
During investigation, police recorded statements of several people including that of doctor Zikrulla Azami in whose clinic Sarika 'delivered' a baby boy in early 2018. During investigation it has been established that the child doesn't belong to the couple.
The crime branch also established that couple brought child from somewhere else and to show the child to be their own, Sarika had been admitted to Azami's clinic. Later documents were drawn to show that her delivery took place in the hospital which were later used to procure birth certificate from the civic body, said the officials.
Following the revelation we have registered an offence under the relevant sections of cheating and forgery at Shivaji Nagar police station against the couple and also booked the doctor, however no arrest has been so far, confirmed a crime branch officer.
